Anshun Bridge sits astride the Fuhe River in Chengdu, China’s fourth city. There’s been a bridge here since Marco Polo had his gap year in China in the thirteenth century. Variously destroyed by fire and flood, the current bridge was built in 2003.
As well as being a handy way to cross the river, the bridge houses The Bridge, the imaginatively named restaurant that gets a mention in the Michelin guide – the bridge is a landmark and so is the restaurant. Both are the gateway to Chengdu’s vibrant bar-street nightlife.
Out the back and still on the bridge are the kitchens, I’m guessing that the chefs work hard and deserve the occasional break.
